Topic:
Mindfulness
Objective:
My objective is to teach students about Mindfulness and it's positive impact on their everyday life. Through my lessons students will learn about how to become more emotionally aware and present citizens of the universe. In addition to this students will acquire new vocabulary and verbiage associated with Mindfulness.
Materials:
I will be utilizing a mix of videos, songs, mediation techniques, books and presentations to engage my students in this topic.
Timing:
We will use one full 45 minute class to engage in this topic. During these 45 minutes students will engage in mediation, conversation and collaborate group work to further explore this topic.
Lead Teacher:
Lead teacher will co-teach this topic alongside of me and help me choose and adapt material to the age group.
LA Role:
As the Language Assistant I will be presenting most of the material to the students so they are exposed as much as possible to my accent. I will take time to engage in discussion and check in with all students on this topic during class to ensure students are understanding the lesson.
Working Together:
The lead teacher and I will work together to ensure students are all understanding the material and tasks expected of them by checking in together frequently. I will share all my material ahead of time with my cooperating teacher so she can review it all and comment necessary adjustments. Lead teacher will help monitor student behavior as to make sure all students are focusing and have a full comprehension of the topic. Lead teacher will also help back me up in class as to establish to students that I am presenting an important lesson that they should all paying attention.
Activities:
Students will work collaboratively in groups/pairs together in order to showcase the different areas of Mindfulness that they will learn about. Students will also reiterate different ways in which being a more Mindful individual can have a positive effect on their life and the lives of others around them through arts and crafts, oral presentations, skits and games.
Evaluation:
I will be evaluating students through the different activities assigned to them. I will check their student work and give them feedback based on their work.
Achievement of Learning Objectives:
At the beginning of this lesson my learning objectives will be shared with students in the simplest of terms. I will share with them out goals as a class through learning this topic. This way they will all be aware of the learning objectives and know what they are working towards. My lesson will be divided into four parts and students will be aware of this, so as a class we will be on the same page and know where we are in the lesson. After completing all four parts we will have a final closing ceremony where all students will receive a certification of completion to mark that we have successfully finished learning about Mindfulness.
Adapting To Different Learning Styles:
I will adapt to different learning styles by having students engage in different types of creative and unique learning opportunities so that all students are on the same playing field and are given an equal and fair chance at learning the material.
